During the online project meeting at the end of May 2026, the Erasmus+ project FoodHeroes – From Waste to Taste celebrated a fine milestone: the recipe book of the Waste to Taste Challenge has passed the 100-recipe mark. There are now around 120 sustainable dishes in it — well above the project goal of one hundred unique dishes. The recipes were devised by students from the three partner schools: SOML (Netherlands), Srednja škola Mate Blažine Labin (Croatia) and the partner school in Mangualde (Portugal). The students first kept a ‘food waste diary’ for a week, to map which food is thrown away most often at home. With those leftover products as a starting point, they then designed their own dishes: from leftovers to something tasty and valuable. All entries were assessed by the partners Prios (Norway) and ValueMe (Bulgaria) on creativity, sustainability and food safety. The three best recipes per school are awarded and the winning students receive a prize. The full recipe book is being compiled and published; the winning recipes will appear soon on a dedicated page. FoodHeroes is coordinated by SOML and runs until October 2026. The project teaches young people aged 14 to 18 to tackle food waste — at school, at home and in the kitchen. #FoodHeroes #ErasmusPlus #WasteToTaste #foodwaste #sustainability #education
