In June 2023, nine schools in the Netherlands took part in a participatory study within VIRAL. In total, 45 students and 13 teachers explored questions about ecological habits and possible improvements in their own school environment.
The study used the Environmental Perspectives Questionnaire, a survey that maps awareness, knowledge and attitudes around sustainability. The findings fed into the design of guidelines for tackling climate change.
This approach showed how environmental education actively involves students in their own living environment and behaviour.
