Green energy up close: geothermal heat, hydropower and waste heat

GREEN LTTA1 IJsland — dag 2

During the learning activity in Iceland, students and teachers got a unique insight into an energy system that runs largely on renewable sources.

Experts from Icelandic energy companies gave presentations: Rarik on geothermal district heating, Norðurorka on recovering waste heat, and the Icelandic environment and energy agency (Umhverfis- og orkustofnun) on sustainable energy policy. At school, the students worked further on their assignments in workshops, and there was attention for VMA’s solar-cell project and a presentation using virtual reality.

In this way abstract theory about sustainable energy became tangible — with Iceland as a living example of how a country uses clean energy.
