October is a busy month for Erasmus+ at SOML. Within two weeks there were two international training weeks, one here in Roermond and one in Portugal. And next week students from Wings Agora leave for Spain. An overview.
GREEN: five days of building in Roermond
From 5 to 9 October, students and teachers from Croatia, Iceland, Portugal, Türkiye and the Netherlands were hosted at Wings Agora. In mixed teams they built a system that monitors plants and waters them automatically, using sensors, a microcontroller and a dashboard. The week started at Botany in Venlo, where vertical farming can be seen at work, and ended with live demonstrations of the prototypes. Those travel back to the partner schools, where they will be connected to the project’s vertical gardens.

FoodHeroes: the final week, in Mangualde
A week earlier, from 28 September to 2 October, sixteen students from Portugal, Croatia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Norway came together at Agrupamento de Escolas de Mangualde. They looked behind the scenes at a supermarket and a restaurant, joined a workshop by chef Rui Cerveira on cooking with leftovers, and made their own films for the FoodWise campaign. It was the closing training week of the project, which ends in late October.

Next stop: La Vall d’Uixó
Next week students from Wings Agora travel to Spain for GreenComp4Adapt. They will be guests at IES Botànic Cavanilles in La Vall d’Uixó and meet the students of the other partner schools there. The project translates the European GreenComp framework into secondary school practice: what does climate adaptation mean in a lesson, and how do you embed it in your own school?
