EcoSTEAM Lab awarded: outdoor inquiry and girls in STEAM, with SOML designing the model

EcoSTEAM Lab, Erasmus+ project toegekend: meisjes aan het roer in STEAM, partners uit ItaliΓ«, Spanje, Bulgarije, Cyprus en Nederland

Another award in Call 2026: the Italian National Agency INDIRE has approved EcoSTEAM Lab. The coordinator is IC David Sassoli, a school in Rome; SOML is one of seven partners. The project runs from September 2026 to December 2028.

EcoSTEAM Lab turns local natural and cultural heritage into a learning space. Units start in the classroom, continue outdoors with on-site investigations and end with reflection and a small civic action: a local campaign, an EcoSTEAM Day, an exhibition. The common thread is the position of girls in STEAM: more interest, more confidence and more visibility in science and technology.

What SOML does

  • SOML leads the design of the EcoSTEAM Lab model: the pedagogical core and the typical indoor-outdoor learning sequences.
  • A SOML school produces its own flagship learning unit and tests the webapp for georeferenced data collection and digital storytelling.
  • SOML organises the Dutch EcoSTEAM Days and multiplier events and adapts the materials to the Dutch context.

The partners

IC David Sassoli, CONFAO and CRES (Italy), Branta Desarrollo (Spain), 203 PEG Sveti Metodii (Bulgaria), Emphasys Centre (Cyprus) and SOML. SOML also works with CRES, Emphasys and Branta in the CRES network.

Which SOML school becomes the Dutch pilot will be decided in the coming weeks. Teachers interested in outdoor inquiry, STEAM and girls in technology are welcome to get in touch. Read more on the EcoSTEAM Lab project page.
